Our Process

Getting in touch…

Initial phone calls or emails to discuss what is happening and what support might benefit you or your loved one.

Intake paperwork will be sent out after this phone call.

Goal setting and reporting…

Following our initial session and completion of assessment, we will be able to provide a comprehensive report on the assessment results and then work together to develop client and family centred, functional goals.

Included in the assessment costs are conversations with clients and/or family members to determine the best way to proceed.

Getting underway…

Our initial session will focus on rapport building and informal observations, an essential part of developing the therapeutic relationship.

Collaboration is essential to successful goal setting and putting our plan in place for necessary assessments (which give us a snapshot in time of where things are at) and our next steps.

Sometimes, at our initial session, we will conduct an assessment. Other times, we will put in place a plan for when assessment will occur.

Next steps…

Now that we have our goals and a path forward, it’s time to implement our plan. We are here to support you every step of the way.

We work with you to implement evidence based strategies tailored to the client’s interests and strengths, to support progress. This might include:

  • direct therapy (including home practice)

  • parent/caregiver coaching

  • supports and strategies for communication partner training

  • environmental tweaks and modifications to develop a positive communication environment.

Costs and Professional Practice

We work with clients and families in an evidence based capacity to deliver assessment and therapy of the highest quality and believe this can only be facilitated by transparency and relationships grounded in reciprocal trust. Therefore, our fees and charges are outlined below.

Please note, that you do not need a referral to see a speech pathologist.

Various levels of subsidies are available via private health insurers and if you do have a referral from your GP or specialist, via Medicare. We are also able to assist plan managed and self-managed NDIS clients. We are regrettably unable to accept NDIA managed clients at this time.

Our terms of service will be provided to you prior to our initial session, which contain further details about our costs and practice policies.

Costs:

Hourly rate: $193.99.

Session length and frequency is determined by assessment findings and evidence based intervention. Most often, sessions are 45 minutes of face-to-face (direct) therapy. All sessions have a 15 minute administration fee added to the face-to-face therapy time to allow for session preparation, tailored home practice, documentation of sessions and to cover any routine administration between sessions. So, a typical fee for 45 minutes of direct therapy would be charged at the hourly rate of $193.99.

The cost of our initial session is $242.49 (equivalent to 45 minutes of face-to-face time and 30 minutes of preparation, review, and planning).

All initial sessions include:

  • Reviewing any information you send us, together with any previous reports;

  • The initial session itself (between 45 minutes and 60 minutes).

  • Detailed telephone conversations before and after the initial session to obtain a comprehensive understanding of history, concerns, goals, interests, the current situation and developing a plan.

Assessments:

Assessment costs vary depending on what the assessment plan is for your particular goals and circumstances. Assessments start at 2 hours of billable time and are capped at 4 hours. We will be able to provide a better quote for assessment after our initial session. Assessments of early language and speech sounds tend to be closer to 2 hours. Detailed assessments of language and literacy tend to be closer to 4 hours. Payment plans are available.

All assessments include:

  • Administration of the entire assessment;

  • A comprehensive and detailed written report; and

  • Initial and follow up discussions with clients or caregivers to set up and wrap up the assessment and reporting.

Assessments are rarely conducted in the initial sessions however where this is the case, different payment arrangements will be made.

Group Sessions

The Hanen “It Takes Two To Talk” program for early language development is delivered in a group format, of up to eight families in any given cycle. All families must have completed an individual initial session and assessment prior to commencing It Takes Two To Talk group programs. Hanen programs are run periodically throughout the year, in 13 week blocks. The cost of each group session is $110. Payment plans are available.

National Code of Conduct

The national Code of Conduct (the Code) is a minimum set of standards of conduct for all health service providers who are not regulated by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Speech pathologists are included in this group of health professionals as our governing body is Speech Pathology Australia.
